Hi. I'm Michele, a 20-something living in Brooklyn & working in tv. This is a collection of things I want to remember and/or find interesting. I primarily talk about New York, food, and the internet.

Using my own iPhone app on a real iPhone for the first time is fulfilling.

It’ll be even more fulfilling on Monday when I’m on the train, underground, with no reception and no unwatched video podcasts, and I want to read something.

And it’ll be even more fulfilling when Apple fixes the bugs and horrendous performance in the WebView class.

I’ve been using textonphone to read books on the subway. They have a feature that allows you to “download” 100 pages at a time onto your phone, using a data file that you can bookmark. I literally download the pages as I’m walking to the subway. I can read 100 pages during my commute, so finishing a book in a few days is a lot more productive than trying to find somewhere to stare in a crowded L. They have a decent selection (I just finished Invisible Monsters today, next up is Freakonomics), and they also let you enter text via their website that you can download to your phone.

This is great, but I’d really like to get the morning news in this format as well, without going to a news website, clicking each headline and copying every article’s text. Marco, I hope your application can somehow do this.

I got an email today from my boss that gave me the impression that this freelance job would be ending sooner than I anticipated, as in, this week. So I immediately told my co-worker that I needed a new job.
I went over to her desk a few minutes later to give her something, and spotted a container of unopened alphabet foam stickers. I asked her if I could have the letter M. She complied, and pulled out a group of letters stuck together. It spelled ‘JOB.’ I’m not sure if this was a bad or good sign, but I can’t make this shit up.

The ruling assumption is that money is the shortest route to freedom.. But in truth, the opposite is true. The shortest route to the good life involves building the confidence that you can live happily within your means.. It’s scary to imagine living on less. But embracing your dreams is surprisingly liberating. Instilled with a sense of purpose, your spending habits naturally reorganize, because you discover that you need less.   What should I do with my life? (via Give Me Something to Read)

Sometimes I read casting call websites. This is for 2 reasons:

1. My dream is to be on a game show and/or any show where you can win money.

2. My other dream is to be on a home makeover show.

So I got this email today:

Hi Michele,

I am producing the new show for _____ titled ‘______’ I received your email (I know you sent it back in January, but we’re are just starting production now – hence the delay) anyway, I would love to talk to you more about your crazy apartment in Brooklyn. It’s one of our favorite stories, and we would love to have our host potentially interview you about the apartment and it would be featured on our show in October. Give me a call or shoot me an email & we can chat more about it.

I went back and re-read the casting call. They don’t necessarily come out and say you will win a home makeover, but I’m assuming you get something in the form of an amazing place to live. I hope.

This is about us all. Every one of us. Who all seem to know deep down that it’s incredibly hard to be alive and interact with the world around us but will try and cover it up at any cost. …Every one of us were told since birth that we were special. We were promised we could be anything that we wanted to be, if only we believed it and then, faster than we saw coming, we were set loose into the world to shake hands with the millions of other people who were told the exact same thing. And really? Really? It turns out we’re just not all that special, when you break it down. Beautifully unspectacular, actually.

I’m researching artists for Rothbury Fest right now and came across this quote. I love the phrase “beautifully unspectacular.”
